Welsh home completions rise 11%

New home completions in Wales rose by 11% for 2025/26, according to the latest figures from the Welsh government.

These show that 5,159 new homes were built during this period with 79% of these being private enterprise dwellings, up 21% from the previous year.

Additionally, 4,238 new dwellings were started in 2025/26, up 12% from 2024/25.

The Home Builders Federation (HBF) has welcomed this progress but warned that delivery still needs to be accelerated to meet demand.

The HBF has calculated annual house building in Wales still needs to increase by around 70% from current levels to meet the annual estimated housing need of 8,700 homes.

As it stands, delivery still remains around 15% below pre-pandemic levels when 6,037 homes were completed in 2019/20.

"We are encouraged by the new Welsh government's recognition of the importance of increasing housing supply and its commitment to looking at ways to improve the planning system and support growth,” said Mark Harris, planning and policy advisor for Wales at the HBF.

“There is a real opportunity to create the conditions that will allow the industry to invest with confidence and deliver more homes across Wales.

"The home building industry stands ready to work in partnership with the Welsh government to help turn that ambition into reality, delivering the homes, jobs and economic growth that communities across Wales need."
